Read your daily sales report

Focus on a compact set of numbers that explain what changed and help you decide what to do next.

1

Use a compact daily scorecard

Start with sales, transaction count, average basket, payment mix, returns, and important stock exceptions. A small report reviewed every day is more useful than a large report nobody reads.

2

Compare like with like

Compare the day with the same weekday, a recent average, or a target. Yesterday alone may be misleading when trading patterns change by day.

3

Break the sales total apart

Revenue can grow because more customers bought, each customer spent more, prices changed, or the product mix shifted. Read transaction count and average basket alongside total sales.

4

Finish with one decision

End the review by choosing to act, investigate, or keep watching. When you make a change, define the number that should improve and return to the same report later.

Compazz tip

Write one sentence that explains the day. If you cannot, inspect the underlying categories and transactions.
